How to Avoid this Common Medicare Mistake

I am coming to you today to talk about a common Medicare mistake I see couples make frequently and how you can avoid it.
This week, I was working with my clients, Tommy and Don. They recently joined the Medicare Coach and are wanting help with  choosing the best plan for them.
Don said to me, “Emily, can you just put us on the exact same Medicare plan? We’ve always had the same plan, and it will just be easier for us. I replied, “Okay, I hear what you’re saying. But first, let’s get to know who you are. Do you take the same medications? Do you both see the same doctors? Do you both have the same health concerns?”
Their answer was no.
The reality is that Don and Tommy have very different medical situations and for that reason, I recommended that they have different Medicare plans.
Here is the thing, having their own unique Medicare plan is going to save them thousands of dollars every year.
So my point is this… Do not assume that you and your spouse will have the exact same Medicare plans.

With employer plans, I know that you and your spouse and your family are typically on the same plan. But because Medicare is individualized, you will likely be on separate plans because you do have your own unique health situation.
Medicare can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be.
The Medicare Coach is an independent Medicare expert providing unbiased Medicare guidance to those joining Medicare. We are not an insurance company, agent, or broker, so we do not sell plans.
