MEDICARE ADVANTAGE AND MAYO CLINIC

Mayo Clinc notifies Medicare eligibles , new to Medicare..to sign up for Original Medicare if they want to come to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

As of January 1, 2009, Mayo’s no longer accepts patients withMedicare Advantage because these plans have a limited network of providers and create a problem for providers such as Mayo Clinic due to the significant administrative challenges involved.

If you are currently enrolled in an Advantage plan and want to have the best of medical options available to you like Mayo’s in Scottsdale, then see me in November during your open enrollment period, and we’ll help move you back into Original Medicare.

I no longer recommend Advantage plans because of their limited acceptance by providers, less options in the future to pick your own doctor, and the $160 billion cut in federal subsidies over the next ten years as a result of the new Health Reform bill.

Words to the wise… if you are new to Medicare, enroll in the Original Medicare program with one plan accepted by almost all providers vs. Advantage with many plans accepted by few providers.

I predict that once Medicare Advantage beneficiaries hear about non-acceptance of their plan by Mayo Clinc, they will come back to Original Medicare.

Some of my Medicare eligible friends went to Mayo’s in Scottsdale for live saving medical care.  Remember, we never know when some of us might need to do the same.  Don’t let Medicare Advantage keep you from being eligible for treatment if you want to choose this option.
