MEDIGAP POLICY CHANGES

By March 19, 2010 March 9th, 2016 No Comments

Effective June 1, 2010 changes to Medigap policies include: (1) the addition of hospice benefits to the core package (2) the elimination of preventive benefits and at-home recovery benefits as of June 1, 2010, (3) Elimination of Plans E,H, I, and J; and (4) the addition of Plans M and N.

The new plans M and N duplicate plan D with co-insurance requirements.  However, Plan F is the one I recommend because it pays 100% coverage of excess doctor charges under Medical insurance Part B.

Here’s why Medicare is so confusing for our clients:
Part A  Hospital-Red White Blue Medicare insurance card.
Part B  Doctors-Red White Blue Medicare insurance card
Part D  Prescription Coverage through a private insurance company
Part C  Medicare Advantage Plan.. some include Part D and some don’t.
Policy A  Medicare Supplement that pays Hospital A’s 20% charges not covered by Medicare.
Policy B  Medicare Supplement that pays Doctor’s B’s 20% charges not covered by Medicare.
Policy C  Medicare Supplemen that pays’ Hospital A and Doctor B’s 20% charges.
Policy D  Medicare Supplement that pays Hospital A and Doctor B’s 20% charges.
Policy F  Medicare Supplement that pays Hospital A and Doctor B’s 20% charges plus extra benefits.
Poicy F  Medicare Supplement that pays Hospital A and Doctor B’s  20% charges plus extra plus $2000 deductible.
Policy G  Medicare Supplement that pays Hospital A and Doctor B’s 20%
Plan M new plan with co-pays
Plan N  new plan with co-pays

Note in Kansas there are 44 different Plan D prescription plans to select, and they plans change their formularies on a routine basis througout the year…

Welcome to the Medicare Confusion Blues….       but I’m here to help you wade through the MUCK… keep in touch…

Here’s the second verse of my Medicare Confusion Blues tune I recently wrote and will record soon:

Medicare Supplement and now Part D,
Talk about the donut hole is worrying me,
This here stuff is so brand new,
I’m stuck in the mud and don’t know what to do,
Stay awake at night, which one to choose,
Cause I got the Medicare Confusion Blues…
