Have you ever wondered if you should get your Medicare plans from the same company you have your employer insurance through?

I have seen that many people assume that because they like the company they have had health insurance through before, it will work for them when they join Medicare.

I can tell you that making this assumption may end up with you choosing the wrong Medicare plan.

Here is the thing, the companies who are usually the most prominent players in terms of providing employer health insurance plans, aren’t necessarily the most prominent players in the Medicare market.

And so, if you go into Medicare assuming that because you had “Company X” at your employer, you should also get “Company X” for Medicare, it can lead to overpaying for Medicare or being in the wrong plan.

Please don’t assume that you need to stick with your same insurance provider, and don’t be scared of other options. There are a lot of other great companies out there who don’t even offer employer benefits.

Secondly, I’d like to point out that this also applies to Medicare Part companies.

Either you will get a Medicare Advantage plan (which usually includes Medicare Part D), or you will get Original Medicare with a Medigap and Medicare Part D plan.

Most of the time, you will get your Medigap and your Medicare Part D from different companies.

I would say that around 2% of our clients will have the Medigap and Medicare Part D company.

So please don’t assume that because you have had a good experience with a company with prior coverage, they will also be best for you when you join Medicare. I don’t want you to have a mess later on or pay more for the exact same coverage you could get with another company.
