Why FREE Medicare advice isn’t really free

I don’t know about you, but I always love finding good deals or being able to find services for free.
After my husband and I bought our first house together, we decided we wanted to renovate. We decided that our first project would be adding a shower head in a bathroom that only had a tub.
After being inspired by HGTV and watching some YouTube videos, we were super confident we could do this ourselves to save money.
However, after two weeks, all we had were holes in the wall. Then we ran into unforeseen issues with our plumbing. The whole thing was a DISASTER. What we thought would be pretty easy, just wasn’t. Finally, we called in an expert to fix the shower for us.
This was a lesson learned for us.
I have realized that while you can get free help or save money by doing it yourself, there are certain situations where this isn’t the best choice. Free services may not always be efficient or done in your best interest.
This makes me think of Medicare, and how the same goes for the advice you receive.
I recently received an email from a gentleman who used free government help to find a Medicare plan. Feeling confident he was taken care of, he quickly found out that his medications would cost him over $1,000 a month, and he couldn’t afford them.
This was somehow missed.
He now has to choose between paying his rent or paying for his much-needed medications until we are able to help him switch.
Here is the ironic thing… Two weeks ago, I helped a woman in Florida who is taking the same two medications as him, and I was able to find her a plan to get them both FOR FREE.
What will cost him thousands of dollars, is costing her nothing.
It goes back to free not always being the best choice.
The same can be said for insurance agents. An insurance agent may be “free,” but can you ensure they’re making the best decision for you and not their commission? They may not charge you a fee for their help, but the plans they sell you make them money.
This means part of their motivation is making a sale and not necessarily focused on helping you make the best decision.
The government offers free resources, but can you be sure that the government employee truly knows the ins and outs of your unique situation to give you the best Medicare guidance?
By simply having an unbiased advocate in your corner, you can be sure that you’re looking at every detail regarding your Medicare decision.
Saving you money, not just now, but in the future.
You also get confidence that you’re making the RIGHT Medicare decision for your unique situation.
